Winter is Coming To GVL

Updated: Sep 6, 2018

You may say that at the height of summer, the last thing you're thinking about is snow, but here in Green Valley Lake, preparations are already underway! Just a short distance from Los Angeles, Orange County, Riverside, and San Diego experience a snowy winter in Green Valley Lake and avoid crowds!

Snow is a big season here in Green Valley Lake for many reasons:

Go Sledding or Build a Snowman in Green Valley Lake

To have a blast without spending, Green Valley Lake offers a winter wonderland fit for excellent sledding at the end of Green Valley Lake Rd around the campground. There are many hills of varying sizes for sledding fun. There is also plenty of space to build a snowman. Our little girl built Olaf the Snowman and was sure he would come to life and walk into the forest! The sledding area is less than a half mile away from Eagle Cabins for snow fun a minute away.

Santa's Village at Skypark

Santa's Village has been around for ages, but now, under new management, it's even better! In the summer you can enjoy mountain biking and rides, but in the winter enjoy hot cocoa, sing alongs, and visits with Santa! Located on Highway 18 between Running Springs and Lake Arrowhead, it's a fun attraction for adults and kids alike without having to deal with the city hustle and bustle! Get tickets early because in winter, tickets can sell out.

Skiing and Snowboarding

Looking to shred some powder, teach your kiddos how to french fry, or take a ride on an inner tube? Travel just a few miles up the 18 towards Big Bear, just 7 miles away from Green Valley Lake, and visit Snow Valley, Rim Nordic and Snowdrift Tubing Park!

Snow Valley provides snowboard and ski rentals, and has several ski runs from beginner to expert levels. Enjoy a large lobby in the main building to take a break and warm up, or visit one of Snow Valley's bars or restaurants before heading back to the slopes. Snow Valley also offers a snow play area for sledding.

Snowdrift Tubing Park is a fun time for the whole family. It is the largest tubing park in Southern California. Walk up the stairway and tube down the hill while enjoying the surrounding pine scented fresh air.

Open during heavier snow, Rim Nordic offers cross country skiing and snowshoeing. Rim Nordic has 10 miles of groomed trails for all levels. If you need gear Rim Nordic offers snowshoe and ski rentals.

Christmas Tree Lighting

Every November, the weekend after Thanksgiving, GVL locals, visitors, part timers, and business owners alike gather together to watch the tree lighting. This is a special night for the community, and though it seems simple, cookie donations, the yearly raffle prizes, and volunteers are already being gathered! I heard Santa is going to be particularly jolly at this event too!

GVL Market & Gift Shop

Local businesses like the GVL Market & Gift Shop rely on winter traffic to keep afloat, while selling sleds, handmade hats, hot cocoa, and enough snacks that you don't have to leave town for awhile! The new management is looking forward to providing for everyone this holiday season.

As you can see, preparations for snow season are certainly underway, and Green Valley Lake is a stunning place to enjoy winter without crowds! If you book at, your cabin will always provide a warm, well equipped, safe place to tuck away during those winter storms near a cozy fireplace. Book today to secure your holiday trip!
